Hi Lou, can you tell us the ‘aha’ moment that led you to start Lody Baby?
It was around the time when all my besties started to have babies, and as a childless woman, I found it quite overwhelming to shop for baby gifts. I mean, how many times have you walked into a baby store or tried to shop online and got so overwhelmed with the selection of products that you'd end up buying another onesie or even worse... a gift voucher. I knew other gift-givers who felt the same, we wanted a gits that was personal, practical and cute. So I researched and found that personalised silicone feeding sets were the only way to go. Now, not only do I have plenty of childless people shop at Lody baby, but also busy parents who know that this is a fab present to give to babies.
I love the mission to make baby gift shopping a breeze. Can you share how you’ve designed Lody Baby to make this super-fast shopping experience possible?
Well, I am particularly lazy when it comes to gift shopping - so the easier the better for me. So I knew right from the get-go that I needed to make the whole process under 30 seconds.
We don't overwhelm our customers with choice - we have 2 staple feeding sets, our OG set that suits 6-18 months and our Boujee set that suits 18 months +. We also have our Bento Box, Flower bowl and snack pots for cute little add ons. Once you've selected the product, just add in your little besties name for personalisation, add free gift-wrapping and check out, just simple and easy.
Personalisation is such a wonderful touch. What inspired you to focus on personalised silicone gifts, and how do you ensure these items are both safe and stylish?
Thank you! What I love about silicone is the sustainability factor - If you purchase good-quality silicone it will last years, as opposed to cheap and nasty plastic dinner sets. Safety is most important for Lody Baby - I only work with manufacturers that have the highest safety standards and certifications.
When Lody Baby started, I knew we had to offer personalisation and we are the only Australian company to offer personalised silicone feeding sets! I've come to realise that both kids and parents love personalised gifts, my Niece Suki loves to look at her name and point to herself - it's very cute.
Can you tell us your favourite part of the job?
Getting amazing feedback from our customers! It honestly makes my day when I see that Lody Baby has made someone's life a little bit easier when it comes to buying gifts for their little bestie.
What did your last 24-hours look like?
Processing so many cute orders and sending them in our new, even more sustainable packaging. Lody Baby has so many exciting projects coming up, so that takes up a majority of my time at the moment. I also get as much movement as I can - it helps to clear my mind and stay focused.
Marketing baby products must have its unique challenges and joys. What’s been the most effective way for you to connect with new parents and gift-givers?
We definitely aren't your typical baby brand - and that is a particular fun challenge when it comes to marketing. We are disruptive in this space - I mean there aren't too many childfree baby brand founders out there and that is our power.
I want Lody Baby to help everyone buy the best pressie for their little bestie, regardless of your gender, position or whether you have babies or not. I found many baby brands are marketed to parents - and rightly so, however we needed a space that was also marketed to the aunties, uncles and gift-givers and I think Lody Baby fills that gap nicely.
As a founder, how do you stay updated with the latest marketing and PR practices and which sources do you rely on for the best industry insights?
Honestly, as a founder I don't get much time for PR, but Flaunter has been a life-saver. Not only is it a one-stop platform for everything you need when it comes to PR, but what I love about Flaunter is the time and care the team puts in to ensure you're getting the most out of Flaunter.
What's the next big step for Lody Baby?
I am so excited for what's to come with Lody Baby! We are currently in the initial stages of designing our very own feeding sets - we were getting a tad bored of what was on offer from our manufacturers and what is currently in market, so we decided it was time to produce our own.
The Lody Baby community is so amazing when it comes to feedback around current feeding sets and what can be improved. We also wanted aesthetic sets - with beautiful colours and textures, but still fun. I can't say too much about what is coming up towards the end of the year, but keep an eye out for some fun collaborations.
