Style News by Sandra Iskander X Flaunter

Sandra Iskander is the Editor in Chief at Style News By Sandra Iskander. We sat down with Sandra to find out a little more about what her role as an Editor in Chief, and how Flaunter fits in.

Tell us about yourself and Style News!

I am obsessed with fashion and travel, the idea of newness blended with history, and I feel both fashion and travel are touched by both. To travel and experience new things opens your eyes to the past and inspires the future, and the same can be said with fashion, and through Style News I get to indulge that passion and share it with my readers. My mum has always had a huge influence on me when it comes to fashion and learning. Growing up she always had magazines around and I particularly remember her reading Paris Match, a French magazine, and I used to take her copies and just admire everything that was featured in them. They transported me to the glamour of Paris and the South of France with royalty and French stars filling the pages, the allure was everpresent at home through the pages of magazines. And through that I grew up obsessed with Paris and my dream was to one day live in Paris. After university and working in media for a few years I took the leap and moved to Paris where I became editor-in-chief of a lifestyle magazine and it was amazing, it felt surreal, I definitely experienced imposter syndrome and I was constantly in awe of what I was doing, just in disbelief that somehow I made it to Paris, working in fashion, going to PFW, travelling to Saint-Tropez, everything I used to imagine through mum's magazines, somehow it became my reality. In 2020 I decided to launch my very own digital lifestyle magazine, Style News, with a focus not only on Paris but also Melbourne and Australia as a trendsetting destination as well.

I also design jewellery, and I recently launched The Si Collection, showcasing my love of accessorising through jewellery-making is almost therapeutic, it calms my mind a little compared to when I am working on Style News when I feel my mind is always racing. It is another creative outlet for me, offering my clients a more affordable selection of jewellery to add a little sparkle to their day.

What does your typical day look like?

I spend a lot of time behind a screen, on my computer sifting through emails and press kits, responding, sending out callouts, writing, editing, downloading and photo editing, compiling information for articles and programming posts to go live on the site. And of course working with clients and creating content for their product or service.

When I’m not on my computer I’m on my phone, creating content, taking photos, editing reels and scrolling through my feed to stay up to date on trends and on top of what is happening.

How does Flaunter make your job easier? How much time does it save you each week?

It facilitates how I manage my callouts and being exposed to new brands and press agencies, which is great for a lifestyle editor who is always looking for new things. To be honest it is difficult to put a number on the time saved.

How has Flaunter impacted or changed your content creation process?

It has offered me a new channel by which I am inspired through the newsletters sent out by Flaunter alerting me to new brands, new offerings and through its moodboards.

What tools were you using before us?

I was using other similar channels and old school ways, contacting labels directly or being contacted by agencies directly.

How do you work with brands and agencies who don’t use Flaunter? How is the experience different?

I’m usually contacted directly by brands and agencies via email or socials. They usually pitch me their clients and see if they fit in anything I am working on whereas with flaunter the labels respond to my callouts. Both avenues complement each other perfectly because when I am working on something in particular it’s great to receive relevant information. It is also great receiving information and pitches out of the blue, which in turn can inspire a story.

Would you recommend Flaunter to other media users and brands?

Absolutely! It saves a lot of time and also puts you in contact with brands and service providers without you doing the leg work in tracking down the best person to contact at said company.
